Stephen Altbaum
Executive Officer
Stephen Altbaum currently acts as consultant and advisor to Lipton LLP, Chartered Professional Accountants, a firm he founded almost 50 years ago. Steve is a proud native-born Torontonian. After graduating from the University of Toronto with a Bachelor of Arts in 1971, he entered the Chartered Accountants program. He obtained his CPA designation in 1974, his Trust and Estates Practitioner (TEP) designation in 1999, and was recognized with the prestigious award as a Fellow of the Chartered Professional Accountants in 2020. His areas of specialty include shareholder/partnership matters, estate planning services, and not-for-profit governance.
For many years he was actively involved in his firm’s international association, JHI (now Abacus Worldwide), having been Chair of the Region of the Americas and serving on the International Executive. While there, Steve was instrumental in ensuring a successful merger with another international organization.
Steve has been and still is active in numerous charities including the United Jewish Appeal of Greater Toronto, the March of the Living, and several other smaller charitable and community organizations. He currently serves on the Boards of the Toronto Branch of the Friends of JNF Canada, the Israel Cancer Research Fund and the Alliance of Canadians Combatting Anti-Semitism, as well as his own condominium corporation. He is also a Past President of the Oakdale Golf and Country Club. He has won a number of Community Service awards.
His connection to ICRF comes from the passing of his father from pancreatic cancer 67 years ago at the age of 42, and from the desire to work with many of the existing board members who he already knew from his prior community service involvements. Steve has been happily married to his wife Heshy for more than 48 years and has three adult sons and nine grandchildren. His family is the light of his life.
